  62.         Well, things would probably get done a lot quicker if some genius at
  63. Atari hadn't decided that it was more cost effective to have less staff
  64. than sell more computers. ;-(  While on the surface this idea may have
  65. merit, it remains to be seen whether it is effective as a long term

  100.      No, it was Amiga Corporation, founded by a bunch of rich doctors who wanted
  101. to invest their money.  Jay Miner (of Atari 8-bit design fame...) and a number
  102. of others got together & started working on it, and were funded by Atari to the
  103. tune of a few hundred thousand.  Apparently Atari assumed they had some kind
  104. of agreement set up to buy out Amiga, Inc. when the machine was done, but it
  105. never happened because Commodore got there first.

  125.   If you wasnt something close to MultiFinder the best thing is probably
  126. MultiGEM. I do not know much about the program but it seems fairly
  127. competent.

  139. I recall some discussion about warnings in using PC Ditto (the software
  140. version) with a hard disk. Can someone tell me if PC Ditto can be used
  141. with a hard disk, and if so, what dangers there are in so doing? I am
  142. new to PC Ditto (just purchased it right here through this newsgroup -
  143. it is a classic that I wanted for my collection! :-) so any other hints,
  144. experiences and warnings would be appreciated. (I know it is sloooooww.)

  177. Well there was a few problems with formating the hard drive with HDX,
  178. did not fill all the boot sector data correctly..

  180. There are a few Doc's that I found on GEnie about all this, do you access
  181. GEnie..?? if not let me know, there is also a maths patch as well..

  233. I'm having problems trying to write a chunk of code to access the "shellp"
  234. features of Gulam and Mupfel.
  235.  
  236. I want to create a shell to go in my soon-to-be-released "TreeTop" BBS package
  237. (hierarchical message base system) that would let you use standard gulam or
  238. mupfel commands while adding some of my own and creating a new environment.
  239.  
  240. The problem is, I'm writing this in GFA Basic.  (I know, I know, but you find
  241. me a language that is interpeted as well as compiled, has a wonderful editor
  242. like GFA, and lets you fix mistakes and problems on the fly... Besides, I'm a
  243. floppy user)
  244.  
  245. Anyways, I wrote a chunk of code similar to this:
  246.  
  247.         Shellp=$4f6
  248.         Togu=Lpeek(Shellp)
  249.         Command$="ls -l"+chr$(0)
  250.         Return%=C:togu(Varptr(command$))

  252. I tried thousands of combinations, like using "Call togu" instead of C:,
  253. passing a null string, executing the contents of "togu+2" instead of togu
  254. (which contains a "jmp" command before the address).

  256. I'm annoyed.  I really want to get the shell and configuration editor done on
  257. this thing.  It's really beginning to bother me.  All I ever get is two bombs,
  258. and I have to re-boot every single time because the computer doesn't stay
  259. operational for long after this crash.
  260.  
  261. I tried linking in some C code in .O files, but am doing something wrong as
  262. well.  I even tried putting a "system.ttp" program on the same drive as the bbs
  263. and trying to load that with "pexec mode 3"... which bombs, as well.

  290. installed it on my 520 w/DS floppy, and it is working well so far (having
  291. 2.5 megs helps I think).

  293. Anyway, I need some help on accessing functions, like XBIOS and BIOS and
  294. that type of stuff.  Where can I get more information on using these
  295. functions, I really have no documentation about them.  Just as an example,
  296. I would like to know how to clear the screen (VT52 maybe???) and plot a
  297. point or draw a line...

  417. can't drive all that load..

  421. On another note can you tell me the part No. of your clock chip in
  422. the Supra host adapter, this is the big ic.. 24 pins..

  424. I ended up changing the clock IC, to a Dalas one, I also rang Supra
  425. but did not get mach help at all..

  464.   A couple quickies.... one, I think only the last drive is supposed to
  465. be terminated...

  467.   two, what interleave are you using?  I just put together a ST296N with
  468. a supra interface and had to use 2:1 to get things to work properly...

  497. If I only terminate the last drive in the chain, it's the only one that

  524. I just bought a 2MB MegaSTE with 48MB harddisk last Thursday. I cames with
  525. 1.44MB disk drive now. However there is some slight problem in reading HD disk.
  526. It frequently ask to RETRY. I have more success formatting HD disk with FCOPY-
  527. PRO than with Format option on the Desktop. Segate 48MB internal hard disk has
  528. rattering sound now and then (to prevent R/W head sticking perhaps?). With 2MB
  529. RAM I cannot get Spectre GCR to work and have to run Spectre with Spectre 128
  530. cartridge. However, after adding 2 more SIMMs into the empty SIMMS slot to make
  531. it 4MB everything work. With 2MB RAM Spectre will give wrong RAM size and hang.

  533. Although the computer has 1.44MB drive I can only R/W 1.44MB in TOS and MS-DOS
  534. mode. The current Spectre 3.0 still not support HD drive. Both SuperCharger
  535. and Spectre can access and boot from the MegaSTE internal hard disk. The mono-
  536. chrome monitor has slight flickering.The keyboard has as good feel and as lousy
  537. key caps (printed on marking which does not look very lasting) as Mac classic
  538. and Mac LC keyboards as they all made in Malaysia perhaps from the same OEM
  539. factory. The mouse buttons have better feel than the Mega4 mouse.
  540.  
  541. Now the problems: Aladin,German Mac emulator, from versions 2.01 to the last
  542. Version 3.0 do not work on Mega STE. I can only run the older version 1.3e.
